lifeslittleoutcast Says:

Apr 7, 2008 - what has happened in my town since our industries were stolen from us is nothing short of moral decay,it really is sad,the people want the town to thrive again but bogus parties like the bnp are giving false promises of a return to prosperity and safety,it's heartbreaking to see our people buying the lies and false hope. the bnp is a corrupt political party.

Jun 2, 2008 - god its so weird to see how it used to look compared to how it looks now Market Hill for example, its all shops and pubs and banks going up the left side weiiiiiiiiiiiiird

Sovvolf Says:

Jun 7, 2008 - Same here man Scitech.

evileyecheese Says:

Jun 25, 2008 - im sure barnsley used to be a nice place, but its more like a sham now. the council have ruined it with greedy delusions of grandeur all of these pretentious buildings that will be springing up have nothing to do with improving the town for its people, that part is a carefully prepared lie taking advantage of peoples good nature.

evileyecheese Says:

Jun 25, 2008 - I have nothing in common with the town now and its a shame. the council need to realise that not all of us are sheep and believe the pr marketing bulshit , they are idiots and its time for us to tell them

redrob67 Says:

Jul 10, 2008 - I wonder if Barnsley had as many drunken slappers back then? I don't live in Barnsley, it's just that I used to work in a pub in Blackpool and had the pleasure of 'serving' many a refined and demure Barnsley lass over the years.

Cascadia07 Says:

Aug 2, 2008 - Define and identify "pretentious buildings"... if buildings like the new council offices, the new college site, the capital business park at dodworth, the new transport interchange, the ongoing development of the Manvers area and the series of new apartment buildings currently being built bring down unemployment, provide a better education resource, attract commercial business thereby resulting in more job opportunities and stimulate the local economy...well I call that progress not pretence!

evileyecheese Says:

Aug 5, 2008 - hmmm none of the above is entirely true is it. if anyone thinks the "redevelopment" of Barnsley has anything at all to do with helping people they are sorely mistaken.

evileyecheese Says:

Aug 5, 2008 - lets talk about greed for a moment! yes that is what you previously described not progress! My old chums at Barnsley council shaping there town into a utopian vision of the future. I put it to you that our council has no place for the avarage people of Barnsley instead they want to change its image, and as a result people are left feeling alienated by the climate of change. change is not enevitable its an excuse !

evileyecheese Says:

Aug 5, 2008 - your going to have to try harder to make me look stupid. simply regurgatating tripe that your employers have told you is a schoolboy error c- nothing personal

Cascadia07 Says:

Aug 5, 2008 - 1. I'm not trying to make you look stupid 2. Lol you seem to think I work or have worked for the council. 3. Everything in my previous comment is true - Unemployment has been brought down in Barnsley due in part to new business moving into new unoccupied buildings. Education has been improved through the new college sites. Housing has been /will be made slightly more affordable by the new apartment buildings.

Cascadia07 Says:

Aug 5, 2008 - 4. Sorry it's not regurgitated tripe it's fact and I can back it up with sources and figures. 5. I think your a bit paranoid and afraid of change....nothing personal :P 6. I'm also guessing you used to work for the council but you got sacked and are now bitter about it? Near the mark? 7. In your opinion WHY do the council want to improve the town's image?

evileyecheese Says:

Aug 5, 2008 - ok we agree to disagree, facts and figures are one thing, real social change is another. ive never worked for the council and I didnt say they wanted to improve its image I said they wanted to change it. To improve it implies that there is somthing wrong with it, for me what you are describing is motvated by greed, you cannot change my mind. but at least you have decent taste in music

tonymontana1974 Says:

Aug 6, 2008 - Great video im from wakefield my mums from barnsley i remember going to barnsley market when i was about 5 ( we moved when i was 6 ). As for the below comments i agree that the council have taken barnsley from a individual nice looking town into a industrial town just like any other.

Dangebri896294 Says:

Aug 23, 2008 - Fantastic Video Footage, I can just about remember the town form those days. Is there a DVD out anywhere of this footage ? Would love a copy.

yorkshireminer Says:

Aug 23, 2008 - there's a video called Bygone Barnsley which includes this and some older footage as well from the 1930s. Not sure if it's on DVD.
